a tree suspended in the sky, raking floating white clouds
no leaves are left on the withered branches, just strips of black plastic
the kind used for garbage bags, tied on the branches
are they black clouds? the shadows of a solar eclipse? a reference to the liter that covers many beaches?
我想問:作品本身到底想要的是什麼?what does the sculpture want?
i want to ask: what does the sculpture itself want? what does it lack, what does it demand of me?
the strips of garbage bag, tied there, like birds, or shadows that make me think of eclipses, of the end of the world
and the work is a reflection, like a reflection in water
i recall that in ‘amis language, reflection (adingo) also means a soul. is it that the tree’s soul wants to wake us from sleep
and to give us some hope?
we must confront the reality of a landscape without land, the destruction of the environment
but once we do that, the plastic birds suggest the possibility of a new kind of evolution
the land is lost, environment broken, and culture threatened with disappearance
plastic birds nest in the tree’s soul
what the land’s reflection in this landscape without land gives us
is a spiritual key to survivance
those residual objects left in the wake of the disaster of colonialism, things thrown away
once you have picked them up, they can show an ancestral cultural logic
and culture’s reflection will be reborn among the people
