sometimes blogging is lonely work. really, i’d appreciate whatever comments you might send my way: of course, comments are subject to moderation, but i’d love to get some feedback on the ongoing writing here

always enjoy your posts dj. they’re an inspiration, as is your commitment to learning amis (and taiwanese). i was just mentioning you to a friend yesterday. she’s based in taipei, but is from taidong and is researching 林班歌 in her home village. i mentioned your work on fishing boat songs, which as i understand it adapt the lin-ban-ge tradition.
most ‘amis would probably say that the diffusion was in the other direction, but right: linban songs and yuanyang songs often share melodies; and because of the nature of the work (far from home for long periods of time), they also share themes. hopefully, the project is going to take me to a few places beyond the normal book length monograph, even though a book is one of the outcomes i’d like to produce
